The Write Direction: A new teacher's practical guide to teaching writing and its application to the workplace

Fred S. Wolff and Lynna Garber Kalna (2010)

Fred Wolff and Lynna Garber Kalna joined up to write this book about teaching writing to students across the grades. The book is used as a supplement to their Common Core Writing conferences, as it provides ample examples of how to teaching writing in a straightforward and practical way. This book covers everything from the day-to-day classroom activities to long-term assessments to "complaints from the teacher's lounge." One of the key recommendations of this book is modeling, and not just modeling the material that they are working on (but also your own work and process). For example, one of the options is to be editing your own papers on the overhead/smartboard while the students are doing their own writing. The Common Core Standards call for an increase in our attention to the process of writing, and this book offers quite a variety of tricks for your toolbox.
