Websites

  • History for Music Lovers- Music videos created by a history teacher and posted on youtube. They are well-crafted, and far too catchy. See "Black Death" above for a sampling.
  • Sheppard Software- An online geography program, great resource for learning, practicing, and testing students.
  • PowerPoint Palooza- A website full of teacher-made Power Points about social studies topics. There are quite a few that coincide with this course, but be warned, they may need editing to fit our content. Thank you Sue Pojer for creating such an excellent resource.
  • CIA-The World Factbook- When working a quick and easy look at what is going on in each country. Basic (and some not so basic) facts about every country are organized here. THIS SITE IS SLOW LOADING AND OFTEN BREAKS!
  • USHistory.Org- This site was created by the Independence Hall Association in Philadelphia, and is a massive resource for teachers and students on American history, but it includes an online textbook on Ancient Civilizations, complete with external links.
  • Google World Wonders ProjectThis is site that is similar to Google street maps, but is focused on important World Heritage Sites. Since we can't all go on field trips to see Jerusalem, why not show them what it looks like online? Sites are divided by theme and location, so they are quite easy to search.

Articles

  • This article is about the new chain of Vegetarian McDonald's in India (from Yahoo! News). The article talks all about the cultural requirements that made this corporate shift necessary for McDonald's to have a chance to be successful in the country.
