Note: You do not need to sign up for all of the day's events, as you are welcome to sign up for as many session as you please

 

 

Session 1A: 8:30-9:15

 

Demo Slam Session Leaders:  Deb Boisvert, DCS, Carrie Thompson, PA, Theresa Schneiderheinze, TRS, Chantal Duval, CCS, Cathy Mayne, PHS/PVS, Lori Mayo, AES/ARD

The Demo Slam is a high energy, geek out kind of session!  Come get the latest tips and tricks! If you are interested in a fast pace session packed with quick 2 minute demonstrations of a wide variety of tech tools this is the session for you.  Think of a quick tech app, trick or tip you use and show it off to others in a two minute informal session.

Session leaders will start off “demo-ing” some tips tricks and tools to get the party started.  Although not required, if you have a laptop, chromebook or other mobile device, bring it along!  By the time it is over you will walk out of this session with many new tips and tricks for your tech toolbox.

 

Session 1B: 9:20-10:05

Work session with planning support focus- Demo Slam

Do you need time to process and play after the fast paced Demo Slam session?  Come to this session to have the time to sit and explore the tips, tricks and apps presented in the Demo Slam.  Session leaders will be there to help you explore and answer questions you may have.  This session will also offer a time for individual and/or teams to work on other tech projects.

 

Using Google Classroom - Lori Mayo, AES/ARD Mayo

Google Classroom is a free web-based platform that integrates your Google Apps for Education account with all your Google Apps services, including Google Docs and Google Calendar.

Google Classroom is a fairly new tool designed to help ease the burden of sharing and receiving assignments from students, saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized.

Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom.

During this session you will learn how to setup a Google Classroom and practical ways to use Google Classroom to support your teaching.

Chrome Browser: Apps and Extensions - Policies and Best - Chantal Duval, CCS

This workshop will discuss the power of Chrome Extensions and Apps to amplify the Chrome web browser experience. We will explore various popular extensions and apps which will aid in productivity, functionality and creativity while remaining in your web browser. Extensions and apps will touch upon: screencasting, screenshots, bookmarking, short urls, sharing links with students, easy bibliography construction, and privacy protection. You will learn how to choose, install, and manage extensions.

 

Google Tour Builder: Enhance your digital story with Google Earth/Street view - Cathy Mayne, PHS/PVS

Create cool digital stories using Google Tour Builder with Google Earth! Create a tour of any subject and zoom into the various places in the world using Google Street view,and easily integrate the story’s text, photos and even videos. “Your tour will fly users from one place to the next along the storyline of your tour, immersing them in the relevant places through Google Earth's imagery and custom content you provide.”

 

This is great for all grade levels! In the primary grades the teacher would lead and create stories with the whole class, while 4th grade and up can create their own tour to show and explain what they’ve learned!

 

Come with an idea of a tour to create! The first 20 minutes will be explaining the web-based program using the Firefox browser. Then, you will log into your Google account to start creating your own tour!

Best Practices: separating personal and professional digital life -Deb Boisvert, DCS

Most educators struggle separating their personal and professional lives. The digital world and changes in school policies makes this problem more pressing the situation. In this session we share strategies for separating accounts and purposes and impacting the development of policies.

 

Managing a tech enriched BYOD or one to one environment - DCS 5th grade: Edith Tatulis, Lynsey Maxfield, Sarah Potter

This year the 5th grade at Deerfield Community School has piloted a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) / One on one device hybrid. The school provided devices and students were encouraged to bring their own devices in. Many families choose to purchase Chromebooks. After a brief overview of this very successful program teachers will open up the discussion about management of tech enriched environment.

 

Session 2A: 12:40-1:25

Kahoot.It! - Lori Mayo, AES/ARD

Kahoot! is a free game-based learning platform that makes it fun to learn – any subject, in any language, on any device, for all ages!

A Kahoot is a collection of questions on specific topics created by teachers or students. The player are asked questions in real-time, creating a social, fun and game-like learning environment.

 

During this session you will learn how to use Kahoot to create fast formative assessments for your classroom.

 

Effective research- advanced Cristy Smith, PA, Ginna Schonwald, DCS

Gone are the days when the school library was the sole source of vetted information for students. In this session we will look at activities and lessons used to teach middle and high school students how to perform targeted web searches as well as evaluating websites for currency, authority, accuracy and bias. Bonus: You may walk away as a more effective researcher yourself.

 

Google Classroom - Flipping and asynchronous Chantal Duval, CCS

Google Classroom can be a valuable tool for delivering content to students. This allows teachers flexibility to use blended learning/flipping to allow students to work each at their own pace. Learn how this tool and readily available resources are waiting for you to tap into so you can use your class time to support students and focus on their individual needs. Google Classroom can make Flipping and Asynchronous learning easy to track and organize while eliminated piles of paper from your desk.  

 

Session 2B: 1:30-2:15

Do you need time to process and plan the building of flipped content ?  Come to this session to have the time to sit and explore the resources presented in previous sessions..  Session leaders will be there to help you explore and answer questions you may have.  This session will also offer a time for individual and/or teams to work on other tech projects.

 

Work session with planning support focus Google Classroom - Theresa Schneiderheinze, TRS

Do you need time to process and implement google Classroom? Come to this session to have the time to sit and explore the resources presented in previous sessions.. Session experts will be there to help you explore and answer questions you may have.  This session will also offer a time for individual and/or teams to work on other tech projects.

 

Managing Google Drive and Calendar - Lori Mayo, AES/ARD

Google Drive is a cloud storage service that allows you to store your documents, photos, videos, and more online. From Drive, you can also create, manage, and share Google Docs, Google Sheets, and other applications to create and edit and save various types of files. You can access your files from any devices, share them instantly. No more sending attachments and merging changes.

 

Google Calendar helps you with scheduling events, keeping track of your to-dos, creating single or repeating events, inviting guests. With Google Calendar, you can quickly schedule meetings and events, and get reminders about upcoming activities, so you always know what’s next. Calendar is designed for teams, so it’s easy to share your schedule with others and create multiple calendars that you and your team can use together.

 

During this workshop session you will learn about managing your Google Drive content and creating and sharing a Google Calendar and appointments.

 

Student feedback with Google - Carrie Thompson, PA

Come learn to go paperless and give feedback to students online using Google Drive, Classroom, and Kaizena. If time permits, we’ll also look at using Doctopus and Goobric, as well as Flubaroo.  All of these tools let you streamline and track the process of providing feedback to your students.

 

SeeSaw - Digital portfolio - Cathy Mayne, PHS/PVS

Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that allows students to independently document and share what they learn using photos, recordings, notes, drawings and videos! It is compatible with iOS and Android Devices, and students easily sign in with a class QR code. When students add to their SeeSaw journal the content is uploaded, organized by the student, and sent to the teacher for approval before it is posted, privately. Their artifacts can later be added to other sites and portfolios such as Google. There is a Parent App, that when activated, sends notices to parents of their child’s work. Teachers can create newsletters and announcements and send to all families using the Class Feed/email feature! Teachers can create up to 10 classes for free.
