Presidential Candidate Research Project

EQ: Which presidential candidate most aligns with your views?

Directions

1. Write a short paragraph explaining which issue(s) are most important to you in the upcoming election. Then, write on the board the most important issue (if someone has already written down your issue, put a checkmark next to their statement).

2. Next, you will research the positions of the Presidential candidates through watching the videos from the C-SPAN Video Library, ontheissues.org, or the candidates’ official sites. You can also view each candidate’s campaign website for more information on each issue.

a) You will complete the research individually.

b) The research can be based around an issue (research on how all the candidates view that issue), or a candidate (one candidate’s view on all the issues).

c) You will complete all the necessary research then present your portion to the entire class after you complete your paper.

3. You will complete:

A. CANDIDATE POSITION RESEARCH

B. CANDIDATE POSITION PAPER

i. You will then write a position paper in which you determine which candidates’ views most align with your views on the key policy issues. The paper (4-5 paragraphs, 6-8 sentences each) should include:

a. Explanation of which issues are most important to you personally

b. Determination of which candidate most aligns with your views

c. Specific examples from you research (using the chart/handout) to justify position from point

C. VISUAL TO ACCOMPANY YOUR WORK

i. This can be a poster, Google Presentation, handout, Prezi, etc
