Unit 1: Foundations in Government
Unit Overview: This unit is designed to cover the forms of government, basic political vocabulary, and major historical documents and thinkers. The focus of this unit is the foundations of American government.
Essential Questions:
Are United States citizens benefiting from being a republic?
How should people govern themselves?
Essential Content:
Sovereignty, divine right of kings, social contract, monarchies, republic, democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy, authoritarian, totalitarian, anarchy, majority rule, minority rights, representative democracies, Magna Carta, bicameral, federalists/antifederalists, popular sovereignty, separation of powers, checks and balances, amendments, repealed, Bill of Rights, expressed powers, and implied powers.
