THE AMERICAS

Essential Questions:

  • How do I recognize the important political boundaries in the Americas? How does the geography of Central and South America influence the history of the continent?

  • How did religious views affect the direction of development in the Americas?

  • How did the distribution of resources affect the lives of people in the Americas?

  • How was the colonization and exploitation of the Americas connected to the prestige of European nations?

This unit examines how the European quest for God, Glory, and Gold and how that played a role in reshaping the flourishing Latin American culture that already existed. It also looks at the role of secularization and materialism in government and culture. Finally, one key aspect of this unit is the idea of migration of peoples (whether it be from across the globe or from one region to another).
